ASO Safety safety bumpers

SENTIR safety bumpers are used to protect against crushing hazards and injuries, or equipment damage caused by collisions. The safety bumper is intended for applications where a longer overtravel distance is needed than with regular safety edges. When the safety bumper is impacted, a safe stop signal is generated. The foam-core structure effectively absorbs impact, and the integrated sensor ensures immediate stop command. Common applications include various moving equipment, such as automated guided vehicles.

SENTIR safety bumpers are available in standard sizes as well as customized solutions. ASO’s in-house product development and manufacturing enable the customization of safety bumpers to meet application requirements. The bumpers can be designed in various shapes and sizes, with custom colors and even logo printing. ASO Safety’s customized safety bumpers have been used in many applications, including CNC machining centers, collaborative robot (cobot) robot arms, and ground support equipment (GSE) in outdoor environments, to prevent personal injuries and equipment damage.

SENTIR safety bumpers have undergone rigorous testing and are designed to withstand over a million switch cycles, making the structure extremely durable and reliable. The surface material of SENTIR safety bumpers is resistant to wear, and the structure is designed to be dustproof and withstand most chemical impurities. Individual mounting and connection options are available for the bumper. The standard mounting plate for the bumper also ensures easy attachment to devices.

The operation of the safety bumper is continuously monitored by an 8.2 kOhm control unit (e.g. safety relay ELMON rail 41-322). When the safety bumper is pressed, the control unit immediately sends a stop command to the PLC. The control unit also detects a cable break. The safety bumper has two cable outlets, which allows several safety buffers to be connected in series.

When designing the safety bumper, it is important to consider the stopping distance of the device and the speed of the dangerous movement. The bumper must be sized so that the overtravel distance after contact (emergency stop signal) is greater than the stopping distance of the device in order to avoid crushing injuries.
